| ...The
Energy Park Concept:
It was recommended by the Enterprise
Network in the late nineties, that a large industrial user of
Natural Gas be located near the source of local Gas, and with this
"anchor" industry plus the co-generation of Electricity using
Natural Gas, an "Energy Park" would keep the Gas here for the
benefit of the Province.
By owning part of the gas and oil
wells, keeping more gas and oil in the province thereby lowering the
costs to newbrunswickers, it was felt that this was a project worth
pursuing... especially as the gas deposits are reputed to be the
largest inland find in the world.
However, the province of New
Brunswick failed to invest in these resources... Business NB has
been unable to make a business case for a gas driven "energy park"...
A major study by ADI determined that making electricity from Natural
Gas, "co-generation", is not viable... and large industrial plants
were not drawn here by the promise of lower cost natural gas.

From this auspicious beginning, the
Fundy Renewable Energy Park Action Committee was born.

After more than a
year of study, interviews and challenges, FREPAC is recommending
that a "Green Renewable Energy Park" be located in our area.
